Itinerary – Machu Picchu 2 Days + Private Guide

📍 Day 1 : Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

A tour representative will pick you up at your hotel (in the historic center of Cusco) starting from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM in tourist transportation. During this first part of the trip, you will travel by road for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes until reaching the Ollantaytambo Station. We recommend having your small backpack ready with clothing for the two days, your ID or passport, printed ticket, and water. You can sleep during the drive if you wish, as the road is safe and direct.

You will arrive with plenty of time at the Ollantaytambo train station to use the restrooms or buy a hot coffee. The train departs at 11:15 AM (approximately). During the ride (approximately 2 hrs 45 min), the train will take you through impressive Sacred Valley landscapes: Andean mountains, Inca agricultural terraces, and the Urubamba River. Upon getting off the train between 1:20 – 1:45 PM in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), you will be greeted by your transfer who will be waiting at the station with a sign and calling you by name.

Our transfer will give you a brief orientation of the area and take you to your Hostel where you can spend the night in Aguas Calientes. After getting settled, you will head on your own to the Totos House Restaurant for a buffet lunch. In the evening, the Machu Picchu Guide will contact you and explain how you will meet the next day at the Machu Picchu entrance and how to get to the bus station.

📍 Day 2 : Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

After having breakfast in the morning at the Hostel, you will head to the bus station to board the Consettur Bus (the ride up takes approximately 30 min). When you arrive at the Machu Picchu entrance, the Guide will be waiting and calling you by name as indicated the day before. We recommend having everything you need ready to go up, such as your Bus ticket, Passport, and most importantly your Machu Picchu Entrance Ticket.

You will enter the archaeological park by showing your ticket and passport at the checkpoint starting at 8:00 AM. Your professional guide (accredited) will take you on a 1 to 1.5-hour tour through the most important points of the citadel (according to the type of Entrance Ticket). The Consettur Bus takes you back to Aguas Calientes along the same route, arriving at the bus terminal at approximately 10:30 AM according to your entry time. Once in town, you will have enough free time to walk around and have lunch on your own, keeping in mind the return time of your train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo. You will return to the train station to board the return train to Ollantaytambo between 2:30 – 3:30 PM or 7:00 PM depending on availability. The ride takes approximately 2 hrs 45 min.

Some trains have onboard entertainment and take about 5 minutes to depart. You will arrive at the Ollantaytambo train station, where your transportation will be waiting to return to the city of Cusco, depending on traffic, and you will be dropped off near the Plaza de Armas.
