Itinerary – Machu Picchu + Sacred Valley Tour from Cusco
Day 1 : Cusco - Chinchero - Moray - Maras Salt Mines - Urubamba - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
A tour representative will pick you up at your hotel (in the historic center of Cusco) in tourist transportation and the Sacred Valley tour will begin. The first stop is the Textile Center and Archaeological Site of Chinchero. Once there, you will enter a Textile Center where local artisans will explain the dyeing and weaving process of camelid wool, inherited from their ancestors. After the explanation, you will access the Chinchero Archaeological Center by showing your Tourist Ticket for a guided tour. Continuing, you will visit the Moray Archaeological Site (requires Tourist Ticket), where the guide will show you the different Inca agricultural laboratories. The next stop will be the Maras Salt Mines, where the Guide will inform you that a separate entrance fee must be paid, charged by the local community, and you will have time to take photos at key points. Arriving in Urubamba, you will head to the Restaurant to enjoy a 40-minute buffet lunch. The last visit of the Sacred Valley is the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site, where you can appreciate the imposing fortress from above.
After the tour, the Guide will direct you on how to get to the Ollantaytambo train station so you can get your belongings ready for the train. The Sacred Valley Guide will say goodbye at the station, and you will continue alone aboard the train to the town of Aguas Calientes (approximately 1 hr 45 min). Upon getting off the train, a transfer will be waiting at the station with a sign and calling you by name to take you to your Hostel.
Once comfortable, in the evening the Machu Picchu Guide will contact you to coordinate the next day’s meeting and provide information on how to take the CONSETTUR BUS.
Day 2 : Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Return to Cusco
After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you will head to the station to board the CONSETTUR BUS (the ride up takes approximately 30 min). When you arrive at the Machu Picchu entrance, the Guide will be waiting and calling you by name. We recommend having your Passport ready and most importantly your Machu Picchu Entrance Ticket. You will enter the archaeological park by showing your ticket and passport at the checkpoint. Your professional guide (accredited) will take you on a 1 to 1.5-hour tour through the most important points of the citadel (according to the type of Entrance Ticket).
When the visit ends, the CONSETTUR BUS will take you back to the Aguas Calientes bus terminal. Once in town, the Guide will give you the Restaurant address so you can have your included buffet lunch. When you finish lunch, you will have free time to walk around the town of Aguas Calientes or visit the Artisan Market.
Then, you will return to the train station to board the return train to Ollantaytambo (approximately 2 hrs 45 min). Some trains have onboard entertainment. You will arrive at the Ollantaytambo train station, where tourist transportation will be waiting to return to the city of Cusco and will drop you off near the Plaza de Armas or at your hotel (if within the center).
