Day 1 : Puno – Uros Floating Islands – Taquile Island – Return to Puno
Our day begins very early with hotel pickup in Puno at 7:10 a.m. Once the group is assembled, passengers are transferred by bus to the Lake Titicaca dock. The first stop will be at the Uros Floating Islands, a cluster of artificial islands built from totora reeds. Here we get an up-close look at the lives of the families who call this place home, learning about their construction techniques, dwellings, and traditions. We will also have free time to explore the island and take photographs, as well as the option of an optional reed-raft ride.
We then continue by boat toward Taquile Island, enjoying breathtaking scenery along the way. Upon arriving at the Taquile dock, we begin a gentle uphill walk of approximately 25 minutes to reach a local restaurant with a privileged view of the lake. At this point, our guide will provide a detailed explanation of the history and communal organization of the Taquile people, as well as their famous textile art, declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
We then enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by local residents. After the meal, there is free time to walk around the island, visit the main plaza, and observe the daily life of the islanders.
