Itinerary – Manu Cultural Zone 3 Day Tour
Day 1 : Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest – Atalaya
We will begin our expedition very early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco to embark on a journey ascending through diverse Andean landscapes. Our first stop will be in the picturesque town of Paucartambo, then we will continue ascending to Acjanaco, the official entrance to Manu National Park, located at 3,500 m.a.s.l.
From this point, we will begin a fascinating descent into the cloud forest, an ecosystem characterized by its abundant vegetation where we can appreciate orchids, heliconias, and ferns. During this stretch, we will have the opportunity to observe in their natural habitat the emblematic Cock-of-the-Rock, the national bird of Peru, as well as umbrellabirds, trogons, and quetzals. Finally, after this journey full of wildlife, we will arrive at the town of Pilcopata, where we will settle into our lodge for the first night.
Day 2 : Atalaya – Machuhuasi Lagoon – Night Walk
We will start the morning with a nutritious breakfast to recharge before heading out for a forest walk focused on observing various species of monkeys and birds. Afterward, we will travel overland for approximately one hour until we reach the Port of Atalaya. At this point, we will board a motorized boat for a 30-minute ride along the river to our next lodge. During the journey, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the river waters and a therapeutic mud bath on the riverbanks. After settling in and enjoying a regional lunch, we will head to Machuhuasi Lagoon.
In this Amazonian wetland, we will paddle on traditional wooden rafts to explore its rich biodiversity, where it is possible to spot white caimans, capybaras, tapirs, and a wide variety of waterbirds. As evening falls, we will return to the lodge for dinner, which will be the prelude to an exciting night walk. This activity will allow us to discover the fauna active at night, such as insects, amphibians, and arachnids, concluding the day with a restful sleep in our comfortable facilities.
Day 3 : Atalaya – Parrot Clay Lick – Ceiba Tree – Return to Cusco
We will begin our final day by navigating very early to the parrot clay lick, a mineral-rich clay wall where hundreds of birds of various species gather every morning. We will have the privilege of witnessing this natural spectacle as the parrots feed and fill the air with their colorful plumage and harmonious calls. After this experience, we will return to the lodge for breakfast and a brief rest before setting out on an exploratory hike along the trails of the area. During this walk, we will venture into the forest to see the majestic Ceiba tree, the giant of the Amazon, while looking for signs of monkeys, capybaras, or tapirs in their natural environment.
Finally, we will say goodbye to the jungle and begin the return journey. The route will offer us impressive views of the transition from the jungle to the Andean mountains. We will arrive in the city of Cusco at approximately 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., concluding our service at Plazoleta Regocijo.
