Day 1 : Cusco - Cusipata - Checacupe - Pitumarca - Predio Ausangate - Ausangate Glaciers - Turquoise Lagoons - Return Cusco
The day begins very early (around 3:30 a.m.) with a pickup from your accommodation in central Cusco to start the journey to the district of Cusipata. We will make a stop at a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious and nutritious Andean Buffet Breakfast, ideal for refueling before the adventure.
We will continue to Predio Ausangate, the official starting point of the hike. Here, your professional guide will provide final instructions, safety tips, and essential recommendations for high-mountain trekking.
We will begin a gentle hike of approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour until we reach the natural glacier viewpoint. Along the way, you will enjoy up-close, privileged views of the mighty Ausangate Snow-Capped Peak, the most powerful mountain in the region. You will be able to observe high-Andean flora and fauna, as well as the vibrant reddish hues of the landscape, known as the Red Valley.
Upon reaching the viewpoint, you will be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the Ausangate Glaciers and Turquoise Lagoons, such as Laguna Pucaqocha, which occasionally takes on a unique reddish color. You will have free time to take photos and connect with the tranquility of the high mountains.
After the first stage, and depending on your physical condition, you will have the option to continue with an additional ascent toward the glacier itself. This is the most incredible part, where you can get close to — and even touch — the Ausangate ice. After this unique moment, we will continue to the highest point of the trek.
Finally, we will begin the return hike to the starting point to board our transport. We will enjoy a comforting Buffet Lunch with local products before heading back. We will arrive in the city of Cusco in the afternoon, ending the service with a transfer to the historic center.
